Advanced Nutrition Program

The Advanced Nutrition Program was created in response to numerous requests from members of our communities as well as our promotoras (community health workers) for more in depth education on how to address and prevent malnutrition that is prevalent in our catchment area. In a culture where growing and preparing food is woven into the fabric of everyday life, this program integrates indigenous knowledge of local foods with specialized education in nutrition.

Graduate promotoras participating in the Advanced Nutrition Program receive specialized education on topics that include anemia, breastfeeding, complementary feeding for infants and toddlers, how to identify children at high risk for malnutrition, nutrition across the lifespan, and prevention of chronic illnesses associated with obesity.
