Adolescent Girls Program

In the communities where we work, the intersectionality of being both female and indigenous, in combination with the patriarchal nature of Peruvian society, elevates instances of oppression and disadvantage for girls. Our Adolescent Girls Program looks to address that disparity by offering a community health-focused leadership and empowerment program to teenage girls. Over the course of a 10-week program, girls participate in a variety of activities that explore themes like self-knowledge and expression, planning for the future, sexual and reproductive health, and community development. This program is designed to expose adolescent girls to community health work and empower them to be leaders in their communities while creating a safe space where participants feel comfortable exploring new and sensitive ideas.

Due to organizational impacts from COVID-19, this program will undergo further development during 2023. We plan to resume program implementation in 2024.
